Comentarios: Highly regarded Romantic landscape painter in his day. About 1830 he painted a view of the scene of the Hamilton-Burr duel at Weehawken, NJ (engraved by C. Ward). In 1835 he traveled to Virginia to paint the Natural Bridge. He painted in Minnesota Territory about 1836, sketching at Fort Snelling and the Falls of Saint Anthony. His A View of Soaking Mountain" (present location unknown) was subsequently engraved for the New-York Mirror. Ward joined his brother, Charles V. Ward (see entry), in Chile in 1845 and for three years they took daguerreotype likenesses and also sketched scenery in Chile, Bolivia, Peru, and Panama, returning to New Jersey in 1847 or 1848 via Jamaica and Cuba. Ward's address was given as London when he exhibited at the NAD in 1852 but Bloomfield, NJ, seems to have remained his residence until his death in 1891. It appears that Ward concentrated on photography after 1852. Son of Caleb Ward (see entry).
