biografía de William Henry COFFIN (1812-c.1898)

Profesión: Marine painter

Obra: Peabody Museum, Salem, MA (Taylor Collection); Nantucket Hist. Ass"n

Comentarios: Only five ship paintings have been attributed to him, including "View of Brig Ceylon of Duxbury, Wrecked on the South Side of Nantucket, April 8, 1837" and "The U.S.S. Constitution vs. H.B.M Guerrière." He was possibly the son of Wm. Coffin, Jr. who advertised art instruction in the Nantucket Inquirer, 1824-28. He probably lived on Nantucket until c.1863, but no records of his death exist on the island. Brewington says he was active until 1898.
