Comentarios: Brought up in Chichester, he was trained as an engraver in England. In 1800 he went to the Cape of Good Hope and in 1802 to Phila., where he remained until 1809, engraving book illustrations and portraits and painting watercolor portraits. Returning to England, he gradually turned from engraving to miniature painting and finally achieved considerable success in London as a painter of oil portraits. He retired in his last years to East Brixton.
