Comentarios: American Impressionist who was highly regarded for his work in pastels. A central figure in the Cos Cob art colony, he became a permanent resident of the Holley House (the popular boardinghouse for visiting artists and writers) after marrying Constant Holley. He was a founding member of the Assoc. of American Painters and Sculptors, which was the sponsoring society for the Armory Show, and was, along with Walt Kuhn and Arthur Davies, largely responsible for the show's organization and success. Archival note: MacRae's papers related to the Armory Show are housed at the Hirshhorn Mus. (Smithsonian Inst., Wash., DC).
