Comentarios: Childs was in partnership with Abel Bowen (see entry) in 1821, after which he worked independently in Boston until at least 1826. He moved to NYC sometime in the early 1830s, taking on several apprentices, including his younger brother, Benjamin F. Childs, as well as Henry Kinnersley and Joseph W. Morse (see entries on each). Benjamin F. and Shubael D. Childs were working together in NYC in 1836, but the following year Shubael left for Chicago, where he continued in the engraving, seal-cutting, and die-sinking business until about 1864. His son, Shubael D. Childs, Jr. (see entry), assisted him from about 1851.
