Comentarios: He spent the greater part of his life in business in Westmoreland County (PA). In 1850 he went out to Iowa and established a provisions store at Fort Dodge, then a military installation, of which he made a drawing in 1852. When the troops were removed in 1854, Williams bought the military buildings and laid out the town of Fort Dodge. In 1869 he was elected first mayor of the incorporated city and he held the office for two years.
