Comentarios: He was one of the founders of the Mus. of Am. Folk Art, NYC, in 1964, and was its curator for ten years. He championed living folk artists and was a strong proponent of the concept of continuity between historic and contemporary folk art. Portions of his own collection were widely exhibited in museums from 1974-88. In 1986, he gave 427 folk artworks to the NMAA. Co-author (with J. Weissman) of 20th Century Folk Art and Artists (1974).
