biografía de Levi L. HILL (1816-1865)

Lugar de nacimiento: Athens, NY

Lugar de defunción: NYC

Profesión: Daguerreotypist

Comentarios: In 1845, he left the Baptist ministry and became a daguerreotypist. He is best remembered for claiming to have made the first color photograph in 1850. In 1851 the NY State Daguerreian Assn. investigated his claim and he was declared a humbug. Undaunted, he went on to publish his Treatise on Heliochromy in 1856. In 1894, Edward Bierstadt (see entry) was the first to secure a color photomechanical image (via the collotype process) but it was not until well into the 20th century that true color photographs were produced on paper.
