Comentarios: A well-known and successful marine painter of the last quarter of the 19th century, Briscoe made many extended ocean voyages where he found his subject ó the ocean and its ships in all types of weather. In 1885, he also painted a major historical mural, "The Battle of Gettysburg," which was 13 feet tall by 230 feet long, in ten panels (location unknown).
