Comentarios: The son of Cephas Thompson (see entry), he commenced his career at Plymouth in 1827. Before settling in NYC in 1837, he had worked in Boston, Bristol (RI), and Philadelphia. In the 1840s he was in New Bedford, MA for a short time, doing portraits of leading citizens. From 1849-52 he was at Boston. In 1852 he went abroad with his family and spent seven years in Italy where he became a friend of Hawthorne. He returned to NYC in 1859 and remained there until his death.
