In his Photon series, Janiak explores the intrinsic duality of light. The photons we interpret as light exist in a dual state—they are waves, and also particles. As Einstein pointed out, neither the wave theory nor the particle theory alone explains light, only together do they suffice. This series begins with the idea that when an observer sees light, its nature changes. To approximate the eye of an observer, Janiak uses the camera lens. As an intermediary between that the eye and what is visible, he uses a prism, which “enables invisible white light to be decomposed into seven primary colors.
