A ceramic canoe shape perforated and marked emerges from a plinth next to a tapestry of blue and light brown that repeats the vertical canoe shape. The title of this mixed media work may refer to the gathering of information prior to taking action, or measuring the depth of water before going in. Metaphor and symbol in this piece offer a narrative of journey and change.
Unusual three dimensional exploration of the idea of vessels, journeys, boats. The wall hanging component is quilted and hand stitched. The clay sculptural boat sits in front, its "shadow" captured in the quilted form. This is a piece designed to be exhibited above and on a mantle.
