Set against an evening sky of soft grays and pinks, Charles Pachter’s ‘Manoe,’ the silhouette of a man carrying a canoe on his head is a classic Canadian scene. Pachter’s contemporary art is best known for his nationalistic symbols. As the legendary canoeist and filmmaker, Bill Mason said, “First God made the canoe, then he created a country to go with it.” Pachter’s canoeist appears to be walking on water; a nod perhaps to the mystical heritage of the canoe in Canada.
A painter, printmaker, sculptor, designer and author, Pachter is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the Sorbonne-Paris. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a Chevalier of France's Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and twice a recipient of the Queen's Jubilee medal.
Framed size is 17 x 21 inches.
