Painted on a raw surface of plywood, in the center of the panel Hoffer's iconic tree image expands on a cloud of paint. The surface has been spray painted with bands of blue and white paint, the work has then coated in resin. Peter Hoffer’s landscapes have one foot in classic realism and the other in deconstruction. He uses mixed media on wood with high gloss resin – the imagery is rendered in realism but ultimately expressed as a modern commodity.

Born in Brantford Ontario in1965, Hoffer has a M.F.A. from Concordia University in Montréal, degrees from the University of Guelph, Ontario, and the Ontario College of Art in Toronto. He has lived and worked in Toronto, New York City, Montreal and now maintains a significant studio practice in Berlin, Germany.
