The iconic presence of a Mountie in red serge on a white horse is set against a backdrop of a cerulean lake and atmospheric sky. Peter Hoffer's paintings evoke nostalgia for classical, romantic forms and periods. Here he seems to look to the sublime in the 18th century paintings of John Constable. In his romantic landscapes Constable would indicate the presence of man through the use of red.

Peter Hoffer holds a MFA from Concordia University and degrees from the University of Guelph and the Ontario College of Art. He has lived and worked in Toronto, New York City, Paris and now divides his time between Montreal and Berlin.

Hoffer has exhibited widely at art fairs in Basel, Toronto, New York, Stockholm, London, Milan, Amsterdam and Hong Kong. His paintings are held in numerous private, corporate and public collections including the Musée des Beaux Arts, the Musée du Quèbec and the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery.
