A figure rendered in rapid calligraphic brushstrokes flies above and parallel to a wide, curved strip of black on a white ground in this painting on paper. The composition, balanced by a flick of the brush in the sky above completes the narrative of Echo who, from Ovid's Metamorphoses, was robbed of her voice by the jealous wife of Zeus. Lonely Echo was forever only able to repeat the last words spoken by another person. This painting is framed. Framed size is 36 × 50 inches.
Lynne Fernie is a Toronto artist, OCAD honours graduate and award-winning documentary filmmaker. Her visual art is included in numerous private collections. In addition to her visual arts career, Lynne is also a songwriter. She worked with the Parachute Club and wrote the lyrics for their Canadian classic, “Rise Up”.
