Deep colours of burgundy and cream flowers dominate the canvas in this beautiful oil painting by British artist Jennifer Hornyak. Known for her abstract and figurative work in vivid colours, Hornyak is inspired by both German Expressionism and the early 20th century French Fauvist masters such as Matisse whose style of painting used colour in non-naturalistic ways. She achieves such rich textures by applying layer upon layer of glaze.
“People think I’m painting still life. But I have to say they’re not. They’re abstractions. I use the flower as a metaphor for myself. “ Jennifer Hornyak
Hornyak has exhibited throughout North America and Europe including the Paris World Exhibition in 1987 where her work was shown alongside that of Modigliani, Picasso and van Dongen. Hornyak’s work is represented in many private and corporate collections.
