Descripción de la obra

During his Paris time as one of his artistic explorations before concentrating on prints. It is without doubt that it was during the Paris period in 1888-1892 before being in Reading in 1893 that he discovered Japanese woodblock prints, as the hereunder instances of 1896. Frank Morley Fletcher, is "known primarily for his role in introducing Japanese colored woodcut printing as an important genre in Western art."

Self-portrait with The Tree’s Brain, evoking his intimate link with nature and trees, as the root of his technique in woodblock prints. The profile corresponds to known photo and the deep and large vegetation of the tree shows Fletcher’s brain and its gestations. The brown branches on either side may correspond to his particular frontal lock. His neck being the tree’s trunk and the shown soil let us think about the artist’s shoulders.
