In the 1920ies and 1930ies L. H. Jungnickel traveled frequently to (former) Yugoslavia and also lived there for some time during World War II.
Jungnickel never dated his works, only signed them.
The painting was professionally cleaned in 2005 by a qualified restorer in Graz, the back was uncovered. The original canvas, apparently from a deck chair, is now visible and the painting has been reframed.

Acquired directly from the artist in the 1940s or 1950s, since then always in the private possession of the same family for 3 generations.

LHJ was only able to return to Austria in the 1950s after his "exile" in Yugoslavia and lived in Villach/ Austria.
