The shekere (from Yoruba Ṣẹ̀kẹ̀rẹ̀) is a West African percussion instrument consisting of a dried gourd with beads or cowries woven into a net covering the gourd. The Shekere was originated in a tribe in Nigeria called the Yoruba tribe. The painting shows three men who are using shekere as a means of making money while shaking the shakere and singing songs for people to dance to it. And people give them money in return to appreciate the shekere performance singers. |
